A Note from Our Board President Sacha Millstone
Funding the Future (FtF) is pleased to announce a new corporate sponsorship agreement with Raymond James Financial, a Fortune 500 company. Raymond James is the official sponsor of our Fall 2016 tour.  Already, nine Raymond James sponsors have committed to twenty confirmed financial literacy shows with GOODING.

The true significance of this program is that the parents and grandparents who are advisory clients are very concerned that kids are asked to make important financial decisions while still in their teen years, when they often lack the information needed to choose wisely. This program gives advisors tools to help their clients help kids avoid costly mistakes.

Most exciting of all, Raymond James is launching an interactive website for kids at the end of this month.  The site leads kids through a series of explorations that expand on the topics of the shows GOODING brings to schools all over the country.  “What Does My Future Hold?” is the main theme. The site helps kids explore the importance of saving, how to use debt, how credit scores work, the finances involved with various career paths, how to budget, the significance of charitable giving, and more.   FtF will be able to seamlessly add our own pages to this site.

Financial advisors can be powerful advocates for financial literacy. Laura Steckler had this powerful video created to support the Miami Dade school district in their efforts to incorporate financial literacy curriculum in grades K-12.  Here is the link to the video.

Imagine the impact that can be made in the lives of thousands of kids if advisors nationwide take on this challenge. Imagine the impact FtF can have as we inspire other school districts and financial firms to get involved.  Funding the Future is looking to create many partnerships so that we will accomplish our goal that financial literacy is taught in every school.

Rocking to the Beat of Financial Literacy
Here is an article from Bob Kucher Vice President, Partnerships & Programs at the PENCIL Foundation newsletter about their experience with Funding the Future this past spring tour:

Great things happen when PENCIL connects multiple organizations that want to help students learn to manage their money!  For seventh- and eighth-grade students at Madison Middle Prep, the lessons about financial literacy began in the most unconventional way when the rock band GOODING performed toe-tapping songs along with sound advice that stressed the importance of budgets and saving money. Presented by the national organization Funding the Future, the performance on April 29 set the stage for a day of financial lessons delivered by banking volunteers from Wells Fargo in mid-May. Students completed a pre- and post-test to document their knowledge about building a personal budget, and then a May 17 presentation honored the top students for their participation and test scores. “I had a wonderful experience, and I’m sure the rest of our WF volunteers did as well,” Sammie Griffin, Wells Fargo Commercial Relationship Associate. “We appreciate the Partnership and I’m excited to see what we’re able to do in the future!”

We partnered with PENCIL, United Way of Nashville, and Wells Fargo to bring this event to Madison Middle Prep. Plans are already in the works for five more schools in Nashville during the last week of April 2017.
